residential care and respite care
Daily Life
At Rowan House we provide our residents with the highest standard of residential care in a relaxed and friendly way, which creates a great atmosphere. Our staff are fully trained and selected for their ability to be sensitive to the needs of our residents. Rowan House is our residents home and we do all we can to give it that homely feel. We give our residents as much freedom as possible, allowing them to choose their menus and which activities they undertake, we try to allow residents to continue old hobbies, if possible and encourage them to start new ones if they wish. We have a spacious dining room and comfortable lounges designed to create a homely atmosphere. Becky Solomon is our Manager, Becky has worked at Rowan House for over 8 years and has a wealth of experience in care and of Rowan House. Becky would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Our Rooms
All of the bedrooms at Rowan House are en suite and some have fantastic views across the estuary towards Plymouth. Our residents have the option to choose the decoration in their room and are welcome to bring items of personal furniture, if they wish. There is a lift to each floor and free WiFi is available throughout the building. You are welcome to visit your loved one at any time here, we have no set, restrictive visiting hours and you are also more than welcome to join us for a meal. All meals are cooked from fresh local produce by our professionally trained chef. Respite care is also available at Rowan House, tailored to suit your needs.
Hobbies & Activities
Residents enjoy weekly pamper sessions, including visits from our local hairdresser and chiropodist. Regular activities include:
- Arts and crafts.
- Resident’s scrap books.
- Window box gardening.
- Therapies and daily exercises.
- Weekly entertainment.
- Regular Church services
These are just some of the activities and entertainments that we organise and they change over time depending on residents requests
Outings & Special Occasions
Some of our favourite trips are to local seaside towns, cream teas at garden centres and visits to shopping arcades. We hold regular parties throughout the year at Easter, Christmas and bonfire night as well as having frequent cheese & wine evenings.
All of these enable residents, relatives and friends to get to know each other better. We also have a theatre show twice a year which is great fun. Life at Rowan House is all about choice. Our residents can get involved in the daily activities as much or as little as they wish.
Respite Care
We are able to offer respite care for anything from a few days to a few months depending on room availability. This could be convalescing after a spell in hospital or to enable a family member to ‘have a break’ for a while, confident in the knowledge that their loved one will be well looked after in a warm and friendly home environment. Please get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
“Thank you all very much for all the care and patience you have given to R over the past few years. As a family, we are all very grateful for your kindness. It has given us peace of mind to know that he is being looked after so well”
“We cannot say thank you enough for all your love and care for our nan. We had some good times together, didn’t we? We will never forget her 100th birthday party. You did us proud. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Nan was very happy with you
