At Rowan House we provide residential care to the highest standard in a relaxed, friendly way that creates a genuinely warm atmosphere. Our staff are fully trained and chosen for their ability to be sensitive to the needs of every resident. Rowan House is our residents’ home, and we do all we can to keep that homely feel. Daily life in residential care

We give our residents as much freedom as possible, letting them choose their own menus and the activities they take part in. Wherever we can, we help residents continue old hobbies and encourage them to take up new ones. There’s a spacious dining room and comfortable lounges, all designed to feel like home rather than an institution.

Our Manager, Becky Solomon, has worked at Rowan House since 2012 and brings a wealth of experience in care and a deep knowledge of the Home. Becky would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.


Bedrooms and facilities

Every bedroom at Rowan House is en suite, and some enjoy fantastic views across the estuary towards Plymouth. Residents can choose the decoration in their room and are welcome to bring items of personal furniture to make the space their own. There’s a lift to every floor and free WiFi throughout the building.

Friends and family are always welcome to visit. We simply ask that visitors try to avoid mealtimes where possible. If you’re not able to visit in person, you can call us any time for an update, or we can help arrange a FaceTime or voice call with your loved one.


Hobbies & activities

Residents enjoy weekly pamper sessions, including visits from our local hairdresser and chiropodist. Regular activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Residents’ scrap books
  • Window box gardening
  • Therapies and daily exercises
  • Weekly entertainment
  • Regular church services

These are just some of the activities and entertainments we organise, and they change over time depending on what residents ask for.


Outings & special occasions

Some of our favourite trips are to local seaside towns, cream teas at garden centres and visits to shopping arcades. We hold regular parties throughout the year at Easter, Christmas and bonfire night, which help residents, relatives and friends get to know one another better. Twice a year we also put on a theatre show, which is always great fun.

Life at Rowan House is all about choice — residents can join in with the daily activities as much or as little as they wish.
