Newsletter – Spring 2016
Spring is here and the sun is trying to shine. We have had a great few months at Rowan House.
We had a great Easter weekend! The staff and residents were busy making decorations and Easter bonnets on the lead up to Easter. Congratulations to Joan Cole who won the Easter bonnet competition – all of the bonnets looked fabulous! Everyone enjoyed the buffet tea on Easter Sunday and, of course, over indulged in chocolate. Each resident received an Easter Egg from Rowan House.
Caroline and Elisabeth have been busy organising a variety of activities for the residents. Caroline has planted some sunflower seeds in pots in the dining room, so we are looking forward to them sprouting and brightening up the home! The residents made some beautiful Valentine’s decorations and have been participating in the usual art and crafts activities, pamper sessions and quizzes. As the weather has started to warm up, some residents have enjoyed sitting in the garden!
There have been lots of birthday celebrations! Huge congratulations to Gert, who celebrated her 100th birthday in April. The staff at Rowan House hosted a fabulous party for the residents and Gert’s family and friends. There was entertainment from Pat and Dave, a beautiful buffet tea, and Carol made an amazing birthday cake. Gert was also presented with a card from the Queen. We celebrated John’s birthday on the same day, and had a lovely cake for John too. Amy, who we provide Domiciliary care for, celebrated her 100th birthday – so huge congratulations to her as well. At afternoon tea, Rowan House staff presented Amy with a beautiful birthday cake, made by Carol.
I am pleased to welcome some new staff members. Neal has joined us in the kitchen and his food has proved to be a great hit with the staff and residents. We also have three new carers; Amy, Tina, and Adam who are all settling in very well. James, Carol and Luke have now left, we wish them well for the future.
We are delighted to welcome a few new residents Cecily, Valerie and Timothy who are all settling in well. Barbara has also joined on a permanent basis after a period of respite and Pamela has recently joined us for Day Care.
We have also seen a few people leave. Valerie has now left after her period of respite. Andy decided to move back to Scotland and Dennis has moved into more suitable accommodation. We also have to say a sad goodbye to Joan. Our thoughts and best wishes go to her friends and family.
We are all looking forward to the coming Summer months and have lots of activities planned. We hope to organise some more outings as the weather warms up and we will be hosting a garden party in June in honour of the Queens 90th birthday!
