Newsletter winter/spring 2018

Spring 2018 and everyone is hoping for the weather to warm up a bit soon.

We had a lovely Easter. There was a very impressive raffle and everyone enjoyed eating lots of chocolate!

The residents have been enjoying lots of music and singing from 3 different entertainers; Pat and Dave, Peter Scott and Johnny. Beth does armchair aerobics with the residents every week, as well as lots of art and craft activities. Our volunteer, Mathew, plays Domino’s and bingo with the residents each week. We have regular visits from the Home Minister and Chaplaincy who sit and talk to residents and arrange quizzes.

Sue, the Deputy Manager, has decided to move on. We wish her luck in her new role. We have therefore restructured the Management team and now have 3 Duty Managers. Becky, who has been a carer at Rowan House for many years, has now taken on a Duty Manager role. Becky has been stepping up into the role, as and when required for a while, so it was a natural promotion for Becky.

We are delighted to welcome Pauline and Reg, who have recently joined the home as new residents on a permanent basis and are well settled.

We have been able to accommodate a number of different people into Rowan House for respite care throughout the winter and ongoing, we hope that some will come and stay with us again and there are a couple who may stay long term.

Sadly, we have to say goodbye to Elisabeth after a short stay with us. Our thoughts are with her family.

We cater for residents with a wide range of needs at Rowan House and a number of the residents have Dementia or develop it at some stage. Staff have been busy attending and completing extensive training courses in Dementia, meaning that our staffing team will be highly qualified to deal with the changing needs of some of our residents.

We have also installed a new door code system which links in with the fire alarms and makes the home more secure and safe for its residents.

Plans are underway to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Megan on 19th May. We will be having and indoor tea party, with lots of lovely food and tea and cakes. The lounges will be decorated with bunting and friends and families will be invited to join in the celebrations!
