Spring 2015

Welcome to our newly launched website!!

We hope you enjoy having a good look around, you will find that all the well loved and familiar services are still there but presented in a new and fresh way.

The big news is that the extension is now finished and up and running.  We have eight large and airy brand new en-suite rooms, some with lovely views towards Plymouth Sound and a new wet room with the added bonus of a lift to all floors. The lift, in itself, has made an enormous difference to staff and especially residents who feel more confident getting around the building by themselves.

John has been busy giving the outside a coat of paint and the next job is to continue tidying the front garden after all the building work.

On May 9th we had a party to celebrate the ‘official opening’ of the new extension and to welcome our new residents. Carol organised a lovely spread and made a fantastic celebration cake. There was plenty to eat and drink for all family, friends and staff and a good time was had by all. Dave and Pam provided the very enjoyable musical entertainment.

Brenda, Maggie, Iris, Sylvia and June have all settled in and are enjoying life at Rowan House.  Rob is now a permanent resident (not forgetting his little white four legged friend, Bobby) after spending a long time coming in for day care and we also have Dorothy (Bobby) with us for a few months.

We have had several birthday celebrations lately, notably for Ruby, John, Ron, Sylvia, Dorothy and Mick who was 99. We always mark these milestones with a beautifully decorated cake made by Carol and a buffet tea, if requested.

Beth continues with her craft sessions and several of the residents made stunning decorations for both Valentine’s day and Easter and currently there is an array of home made Spring flowers decorating the windows.

All the usual activities have been taking place with pampering sessions and regular entertainment and we are looking forward to a visit from a harpist in the near future. We were delighted to receive a donation of fruit from the Saltash May fair.

There have been VE day celebrations over the weekend of 9/10 May which were of particular interest to Ron who served as a pilot and John who was one of the first onshore to liberate the Channel Islands.

Over the last couple of months we have welcomed four new members of staff Lisa, Laura, Carol and Natasha and said goodbye to Karen who has gone to pursue a new career.  Matthew and Ellie are now coming in on a voluntary basis and we really appreciate their contribution.

We are all looking forward to the weather warming up and we hope to organise a bar-be-que for some time in June or July. Also with the Summer approaching, we will start to plan some trips out in the mini-bus.
