Summer is now drawing to a close and it has been a rather damp and disappointing one weatherwise but here at Rowan House things have been cheerful and busy,as always.
We have welcomed several new residents, Keith, Edna, Brian, Peter and Margareta who are all settling in well and it is lovely to have Rob back again after a long spell in hospital. June, Pippa and Jason have left to go to more suitable accommodation and sadly we have had to say goodbye to both Roy and Harold who died peacefully.
We have had a full and varied program of activities including trips out in the minibus to Whitsand Bay and along the coast to Cawsand for cream tea. There is another trip planned in the next week or two to Endsleigh Garden Centre for cream teas. Dave and Pam have been regularly to entertain everyone with their ever changing act of music and song. Beth has been busy with her craft afternoons, quizzes and exercises and we have also re-introduced the ‘memory lane’ and scrapbook sessions.
Next Sunday we have a visit from the Co-op choir and everyone is looking forward to a fashion show presented by Kernow Mill at the end of the week. In October we have a music event planned with percussion instruments for everyone to try. That should be fun!
There was a bar-b-que planned in August but it had to be cancelled because of bad weather. We are hoping to rearrange it before the end of September.
There seem to have been a lot of birthday celebrations – notably Gert who was 99. We always like to make a fuss of residents on their birthday and Carol has been baking wonderful cakes to mark the occasion.
Elizabeth, our Deputy Manager, retired in July after working at Rowan House for 28 years! She is now having a well deserved rest and we all wish her every happiness in her retirement. She has promised to keep in touch and get updates on all the gossip. We had a lovely party for her with all the staff, residents, friends and relatives and, of course, one of Carol’s delicious cakes.
Becky went on maternity leave in June and had a beautiful baby girl, Evie, in August. She has visited several times and the new arrival has been the centre of attention for both staff and residents.
There was another celebration in August when two members of staff, Karl and Luke, got married in a beautiful location in Devon. Congratulations to both of them!
We have welcomed three new members of staff, Grace, Sharon and Jenny who have all quickly become part of the Rowan House family. Avril and Natasha have left us and we wish them well in their new careers.
The nights are beginning to draw in and there is an Autumnal feel to the air but Vic has been working hard in the garden and it is still full of life and colour. Hopefully we will have an Indian Summer with more warm and sunny days to look forward to.
